CBI welcomes Amanda Jonas as new TSRC Director

The Conrad Blucher Institute for Surveying and Science (CBI) at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is pleased to welcome Amanda Jonas, RPLS, as the new Director of the Texas Spatial Reference Center (TSRC).

Established by the Texas Legislature in 2007 and further affirmed in the 2021 legislation, the Texas Spatial Reference Center is designated as the authoritative resource for the National Spatial Reference System (NSRS) and Texas State Coordinate System definitions. Housed within CBI, TSRC is responsible for setting the official coordinate systems used by surveyors, engineers, GIS professionals, and government agencies across Texas.

As TSRC Director, Amanda will build strategic partnerships and secure funding mechanisms to support the Center and establish it as Texas’ premier source for geospatial guidance. She will also serve as Texas’ primary liaison to stakeholders transitioning to the modernized NSRS being launched by the National Geodetic Survey (NGS).

“This is a critical time for TSRC, as the National Geodetic Survey (NGS) is preparing to launch a modernized NSRS that will bring significant changes in our geodetic infrastructure,” said Dr. Richard Smith, CBI Executive Director. “We’re excited to have Amanda provide her visionary leadership as TSRC Director and help guide Texas through this once-in-a-generation modernization.”

Amanda brings more than 22 years of surveying experience spanning both field and office roles, including service with the U.S. Air Force and the Texas Department of Transportation’s Corpus Christi District. Over the past decade, she has managed professional surveying services for state, city, and county projects. Amanda holds a Bachelor of Science in Survey Management from Everglades University, where she graduated summa cum laude, and is a Registered Professional Land Surveyor (RPLS) in Texas.

CBI is thrilled to have Amanda join CBI and looks forward to the notable contributions she will make to the institute and the State of Texas.
