Dr. Michael (Mike) J. Starek is an Associate Professor of Geospatial Systems Engineering at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and Director of the Measurement Analytics (MANTIS) Lab at CBI where he also serves as Chair for Remote Sensing and Autonomous Systems for Geomatics. Mike holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Florida and was formerly a National Research Council Postdoctoral Fellow of the U.S. Army Research Office. From 2012-13, he was a Research Scientist with HRI working with the Coastal & Marine Geospatial Lab of Dr. Jim Gibeaut before transitioning into a faculty position in 2014. Mike’s research explores the merging of geomatics, remote sensing, and geospatial computing for monitoring of natural and built environments. As author or co-author, Mike has published over 50 peer-reviewed publications in geospatial-centric topics including light detection and ranging (LiDAR), uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS), photogrammetry, GIS, and machine learning for geospatial data.
