Samuel “Rocky” Garza joins us as a new Field Research Operations Associate with CBI’s Field Research Operations Group (FROGs). Under the direction of Devon Steffan, Samuel will work as part of the Research Operations team, helping maintain and deploy an expansive network of environmental monitoring stations along the Gulf Coast.

Samuel holds an associate’s and bachelor’s degree in Homeland Security, specializing in Emergency and Disaster Management. He brings with him more than 12 years of military experience, including multiple combat tours in Afghanistan while serving on active duty in the U.S. Army. During his service, Samuel developed strong leadership and training skills, which he utilizes serving as a senior instructor and Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC) of the Officer Candidate School program at the Texas State Guard Training Center. Outside of work, Samuel enjoys kayaking, sailing, and scuba diving. He also volunteers at the Texas State Aquarium, where he assists in maintaining TSA’s underwater exhibits.
