As a Postdoctoral Research Associate with CBI’s Coastal Dynamics Lab (CDL), Dr. Thanh-Dung Le (Senior Member, IEEE) leads the development of automated AI-based quality control and assurance models for water-level observations. His work directly supports NOAA operations along U.S. coastlines, including the Pacific Islands, and is conducted in close collaboration with NOAA CO-OPS and GCOOS.

Dr. Le’s research focuses on applied machine learning for critical decision-making systems, emphasizing interpretable models through semantic feature extraction and mutual information techniques. He received his B.Eng. in Mechatronics Engineering from Can Tho University, Vietnam; his M.Eng. in Electrical Engineering from Jeju National University, South Korea; and his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the École de Technologie Supérieure, University of Quebec, Canada. From 2023 to 2024, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow with the AI Cluster for Acute Care for Children at CHU Sainte-Justine Hospital, University of Montreal, Canada. From 2024 to 2025, he served as a Research Associate at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability, and Trust at the University of Luxembourg, Luxembourg, working on efficient and interpretable AI for satellite-based Earth observation.
